Resistance is Futile
Tonight, I have been thinking about my resistance to God's will for me.
Actually, I have been thinking about more than just my resistance, but how we all have a tendency to resist what God's will is for us.
I see it so much in my kids...and in my friends...and in my friends' kids...and in myself, that I wonder at it.
See, I see lessons in EVERY experience we face...especially in our difficulties. So if I keep facing the same difficulties time and time again, I have to realize the problem lies in one of two things. Either I am not at peace because of some sin in my life that I am refusing to recognize or someone I love is not recognizing some sin in his or her life and I am not giving that person to God and letting Him help them see the unresolved sin in his or her life.
For example: My son and daughter are at those lovely pre-teen/teen years where homework is 'optional' in their minds. I have tried everything under the sun to get them to do their homework: bribery, punishment, spankings, etc. Until they see for themselves that the only person they hurt by not doing their assignments are them, they won't get it. It upsets me, but I need to trust God to do a good work in them. I pray for them. I ask God to lead them, but the decision is THEIR decision, not mine.
In my life, we went to a party recently that I did not want to attend. While I was there, I learned a lesson about family...God's family isn't made of flesh and blood, but of love. It is a lesson that I am still having a difficult time with, but I can see how God is using my weaknesses to show me His strength.
God's will for me is to depend upon Him. Not to depend on Him partially, but to cast ALL of my cares upon Him and trust Him to lead me to where He wants me to be. That might not be where I had planned to go, but what He has in store for me will always be better than I plan for myself. I simply need to trust Him. Trust is a lesson that I have difficulty with, but the longer I walk with God, the easier it becomes, because He is equipping me with everything good for doing His will.
1 Peter 5:7
